Emotional Freedom Technique
It’s taking the country by storm but it’s been around for awhile – yes, I’m talking about EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique! You can learn it easily, and begin to use it yourself at home. For the best results, consult a therapist familiar with EFT, or an EFT practitioner who can guide you through the process and help you develop refinements to the basic statement. This will further deepen the healing and growth you experience. This article is meant to whet your appetite for this gentle, effective way of working on hurtful or limiting issues; I’m not describing the full pattern or the myriad of positive results you can achieve. The basic manual is free - see the link below this article. I’ve been using EFT with my clients for about 2 years now, and have seen success in too many areas to list. Testimonies are available on the website, or I can send them to you. The idea is that core limiting beliefs can be changed by tapping on various points on the body. The basic pattern involves tapping a few points on the face, chest, and hands. There is a little more to it than that, of course, which is clearly and easily explained in the basic manual. A bit more about the technique – There is a statement that you will develop to use with the tapping. The statement goes something like this: “Even though (insert your limiting belief or issue you want to work with), I fully and completely love and accept myself.” Here are some examples: Even though I believe I don’t deserve to be happy, I fully and completely love and accept myself. Even though I am terrified to go to the interview, I fully and completely love and accept myself. Or, for different kinds of issues: Even though I feel anxious about our finances, I choose to feel calm and capable. Even though I don’t like my job, I choose to enjoy the feeling of accomplishment of completing each day. There are endless variations, and one way to find the most appropriate statement is to list several, each one addressing a deeper issue illuminated by the first. Here’s an example of refining the initial statement: 1) I feel scared. (too broad) 2) I may lose my job. (more specific) 3) I don’t have enough money to retire. (further defines the scared feeling) 4) I don’t believe I can make it. (a general belief) 5) I don’t believe I deserve happiness. (a core limiting belief) Before using the statement with the tapping, measure your attachment to or degree of belief in the issue statement on a 1 to 10 scale (1 is low, 10 is high). The client – or you– would then tap and repeat the statement developed from the core limiting belief: “Even though I don’t believe I deserve to be happy, I fully and completely love and accept myself.” Measure your degree of belief again; repeat the entire sequence as described in the manual and DVD’s until your degree of belief is very low – comfortably low. That's basically it. Enjoy this exciting way to enhance your life! To the greatest sense of wellness, just for you!
